PET - polyethylene terephthalate
PET is a film of artificial plastic with high strength and at the same time with excellent processing (abbreviation of PET is polyethylene terephthalate). It is made of polyvinyl chloride  (a petroleum compound). It was created to mimic the lacquer paint on doors made of MDF. As PET sheet is flexible, it is ideal for coating carved and curved furniture surfaces. In flat doors we can recognize it by the gluing finish of the edge at the margins. In light shades one can easily notice a thin gray line that comes from the use of glue for soldering the ending strip.

Unfortunately, some dishonest kitchen furniture manufacturers offer their customers PET doors as acrylic doors which are disproportionately more resistant to scratches and UV radiation.

What are the advantages?
The main advantages of PET are its ability to achieve a high gloss and a similar appearance to acrylic doors, at a much lower price than them.

It is also important that the front surfaces can’t be penetrated by liquids, which makes them easy to clean.

What are the disadvantages?
Disadvantages will include low scratch resistance (the use of wire sponges is not recommended), lack of resistance to high temperatures and ultraviolet UV radiation. If after a long period of time, you need to replace one of the doors, unfortunately you will notice that your new door will have a different shade from the old ones.

Where is it used?
PET plastics are present in almost all products around us. Due to their durability, low production costs and ease of use, they are widely used by all industries, from food packaging to the space industry. Polyethylene terephthalate, i.e. the popular PET, is mainly used in the production of packaging. The ever-present bottles are made from it, but it is also ideal for all kinds of blisters, caps or lids.
